The Open Culture site calls itself the source for “the best free cultural & educational media on the web”, and it may be exactly that. Dan Colman, the lead editor, is the Director and Dean of Stanford University’s Continuing Studies Program. The posts on the front page are always interesting and thought-provoking.
This site is easy to navigate by the tabs at the top of the page. You can use this site to easily find audio recordings of Jane Austen’s classics, or how about an audio copy of The Red Badge of Courage for that struggling reader in your class? Check out their list of Audio Books.
Want to watch an entire movie? The Movies tab takes you to links to such classics as Death Mills directed by Billy Wilder, about the concentration camps liberated at the end of World War II.
Need to refresh your memory in a content area, or are you a self-directed learner? Their list of 250 free courses in the liberal arts and sciences available online might be right for you.
Another tab takes you to free online language-learning in 37 foreign languages. Their Free eBooks list will take you to sites to get great novels for your PC, iPhone, iPod Touch, or Kindle.
Finally, their Smart YouTube list will take you to where they have gathered together some of the more intelligent video collections on YouTube. This terrific list will help you find the ‘good stuff’ without having to search through the chaff available on YouTube.
